Why Rapeseed wax?
Why Rapeseed wax?
If you are already a fan of the eco-friendly candles you most probably already know about the benefits of the soy wax candles. But with Rapeseed wax, I (and you) would go a step further into sustainability! Here is why....
Soy wax is way better than paraffin in terms of toxic waste, cleanliness and burning time, but very far from the ethical and sustainable production that I find very important to consider. The vast majority of soy waxes are made from genetically modified soybeans. The more research I was doing, the more I was feeling that soy wax may not be the best choice because of the production and sourcing of its base product.
causes tropical deforestation (behind beef, soy is the second largest agricultural driver of deforestation worldwide)
causes habitat loss (When these native habitats are lost, it leaves wildlife without homes, accelerates climate change, leads to more water pollution, disrupts rain, and prolongs drought.)
shipping it in from faraway lands
GMO
So I kept searching and I came across rapeseed wax. The benefits I found out made it obvious that the choice is clear:
rapeseed is widely grown in Europe, and my business is Europe based
no rain forests and savannas are destroyed for production,
doesn't have to travel all around the world to reach us,
It's fully renewable,
its oil is used for human consumption and also as bio diesel, the by product is used for animal feed or as an excellent fertilizer, so it produces hardly any waste
and when its oil is hydrogenized, it makes fantastic wax for candles that is also biodegradable and if it spills, it can be cleaned with hot water and soap.
non-GM source
Burns cleanly and guarantees a smooth surface of a candle
The wax mix that I use is a blend of rapeseed oil and coconut oil and nothing else. It is completely free from paraffin, soy, palm, beeswax and synthetic additives. It is all natural, burns long without releasing carbon and toxic stuff in the air, it also has amazing scent throw (with the help of the coconut wax). And furthermore, it is amazing how sourcing the main raw material for my candles does not cause any negative impact to the environment and does not put at risk any natural habitat.
